On behalf of the Poverty-Bay East Coast Masters team, I'd like to thank you and your wonderful club for hosting us at the 2022 Freyberg Masters.
From the time we arrived we felt welcomed, and it made it very easy to get comfortable quickly. The boys could not get over how friendly everybody was, right down to remembering our names and asking how we were going. We even got waves while we were playing. The bar staff and caterers were on the same kaupapa as well. (The buns in our lunches were amazing!)
And the course. We understood it's been a wet winter, much like we have had at home. Our courses have been closed multiple weekends on end for periods, so we were expecting the worst. It was the opposite. I would have to rate it as one of my favourite courses over my 25-year rep career, which has allowed me to play the top courses in every province. This is a testament to your Greenkeepers who we saw putting in work after play finished every night and before it started each day.
So, with the combination of a great course, perfect weather, wonderful members/staff, it was easy to figure out why your club was voted New Zealand's Club of the Year 2018. Plenty of ideas to bring back to my home club in Gisborne. Motueka and the surrounding areas is such a great place and I'd like to bring my family here one day.
